With a passion for honouring women through their pregnancy and postnatal journey, Selph Yogi and Author Madina Tanekeyeva’s teaching philosophy is grounded in a deep respect and appreciation for the sacred trinity of body, energy and mind.

It is from this place that Madina curates her classes, in order to hold space for women and their journey back to self through letting go of what no longer serves them, strengthening weak areas and reconnecting with their mind and body.

Madina talks us through one of her focus yoga and breathwork techniques for strengthening the pelvic floor and reconnecting with self through Mula Bandhas.

In yogic tradition, in order to harness and utilise our internal energies for healing and self development, various internal locks called Bandhas were described by tantric masters and later adapted by yogis.

The throat, stomach and root lock make up the three Bandhas which are fundamental practices of modern day yoga and form the framework in which we consider energy and how it can help support the internal healing process.

Engaging the Mula Bandha (the root lock), is one of the most effective and accessible ways to help support your pelvic floor health and healing after giving birth, as activating and sending awareness to the Mula Bandha requires engagement of the pelvic floor muscles.

Mula Bandha is stabilising and calming and also enhances the energy of concentration. As this root chakra is also associated with a sense of grounding and connection, the Mula Bandha can also initiate a deeper sense of stability and clarity for the body and mind, which is imperative for new mums.
