Vinyasa means to place in a special way, and is often translated to flow yoga. Flow yoga is where we link movements with the breath.
Breath leads, movement follows.
Practicing Vinyasa yoga allows for our attention to stay present with the movements we are making. More presence allows us to land in a meditative state, as meditation is being completely immersed with something. When we ‘flow’ through yoga poses we are unravelling the layers of tension in both the body and the mind. This is meditation in action.
As a bit of background, yoga is an ancient practice of living a more mindful and enriched life through techniques to unify the whole self into awareness. These techniques include meditation, movement, pranayama, and philosophy.
Each one is designed to unite our body, mind and spirit together by dissolving the barriers that limit our full potential, in line with the philosophy of Selph Health Studios.
In our everyday very ‘busy’ lives yoga is a way to cultivate the mind and body connection to maintain better balance for your whole self.
In the modern day practice of yoga we focus on moving in a fluid way to free the body from restrictions. When the body feels a little less bound by everyday load and stress, we have a moment to just be, free from the busy-ness that surrounds us each day. A feeling of ease, attention and release.
